This is the wood combination that serious players and collectors chase: Brazilian rosewood back and sides paired with an Adirondack spruce top, built by Collings during Bill Collings' lifetime and now with 20 years of aging on that top.
The CJ is Collings' slope-shouldered jumbo, inspired by the Gibson Advanced Jumbo but built with Collings precision. It's a big guitar with a voice to match. The Brazilian rosewood delivers that unmistakable combination of deep, clear bass and sparkling highs, while the Adirondack top provides the headroom and dynamic range that Sitka can't touch. After two decades of playing in, this guitar has opened up beautifully.
Collings stopped offering Brazilian rosewood as a standard option years ago. The remaining supply continues to dwindle, and guitars like this one don't come up often.
Condition
Excellent overall. The top is clean with minimal playwear. The sides show some finish impressions from case storage, typical of nitrocellulose lacquer over time. No cracks, no repairs. Frets have plenty of life with no grooving.
